City of the Popes

* Avignon, Residence of the Popes in the Middle Ages, Avignon still reflects this magnificent destiny: the Palais des Papes, the bridge, ramparts, churches and chapels all lend a unique atmosphere to the town. * Festive Avignon
61th Avignon Festival. 3 weeks in July 2007. The cream of European live performance will be on show. In parallel, the 600 companies of the fringe festival will turn the town into a vast stage for artistic encounters.

* Getting there
- Avignon high-speed train station: Direct high-speed trains to Paris (2 hrs 40 mins), Charles de Gaulle airport, Lille, Lyon, Geneva, Brussels…
- Avignon Centre station: high-speed train, Eurostar Avignon-London in the summer
- Avignon Caumont airport: 8 km from Avignon: direct flights to Paris Orly Ouest 4 times per day. To Southampton (Flybe) from May to October 3 times a week.
