Lyon’s traditional “Fête des lumières” (Rhône-Alpes) will take place on 6, 7 and 8 December.
This popular event has taken place each year since 1852 around 8 December in Lyon. The whole town is covered in light to pay homage to the Virgin Mary.
The Festival of Lights involves 80 lighting projects and attracts numerous visitors each year.
New in 2009: The square in front of the Basilique de Fourvière [Fourvière Basilica], as well as its façade, will covered by a sequence of changing lights on a 15-minute loop. The route along the banks of the Rhône (new in 2008) will be conserved and reinforced from the Place Maréchal Lyautey to the Parc de la Tête d’Or.
